Oh Wonder is getting high over a really weird video, that talks about our obsession with YouTube and Instagram
"It feels like our life has turned into this ultra life," Oh Wonder singer and pianist Josephine Vander Gucht gushes in her interview with The West Australian , " almost hyper real and very surreal. That was the only word we could use to describe it." Unsurprisingly, Ultralife is also the name of Oh Wonder's second and latest album to hit us this summer.

Packed with subversive melodies, euphoric harmonies, and a energetic combination of drums and the synth, the album celebrates the dual impact of human interactions amidst indie, electronic notes. The track that catches our attention the most is " High on Humans", especially when you have Gucht sitting out of a spaghetti bowl in the song's music video.

Prior to a show in Philippines, with ABS CBN, the singer talked about her favourite song from the album, " One of my favorites is " High on Humans," which is written about this amazing experience I had in a tube. There were two girls talking about hot sauce and then one of the girls said, " Oh, I don't like hot sauce," then I leaned in then said " What do you mean you don't like hot sauce?" and they just looked at me like, " Who is this weirdo?" Then we just started having this chat for like half an hour about food that I got so hyped talking to strangers. I called Anthony I said, " Anthony! I'm high on humans!" then we wrote the song. So that song came from a really weird place."

And it isn't just the song that embodies the spirit of everyday human exchange, the video features a cohort of personalities clashing against one another, intermingling in the background of an oddly robotic neon green and white combination background.

Oh Wonder, became popular as an almost accidental band , when in September 2014, the duo started writing and releasing a song a month online, for 1 year picking up accolades on the way, finally releasing the 12 track compilation, as their self titled debut album. The band refused to sign up with any major record label ( despite being chased by many), even after the roaring success of the album.

Their 2nd album is the culmination of the duo's experience while living in NYC, and completely composed, mixed and produced by Gucht and West themselves, at their home studio. In their interview with the Dork, Anthony explains how the entire planning had to be around the traffic schedule around their home studio, and as an ode to the blaring horns, and the London double deckers, the title track opens with traffic noises.


We love the baby green white combination, that remains uniform across the video. Paired with the quintessential robotic expressions, that ultimately transform alongside a rising crescendo of thumping pop synth, is the icing on the cake.
