A country’s airport is its window to the world. Or shall we say the door? Either way, that’s the place where you get the first impression of the country you are going to visit. The city airport also ends up being the only point of contact for many travelers who are merely stopping over for their connecting flights and don’t even hold a visa to enter the country. So it is all the more important for international airports to ensure the right kind of economic and cultural presentation to the outside world.

Until recently, airports in India were nothing to write home about (pun intended). But there have been some wonderful developments and the new facilities, developed under public-private partnerships, rightfully boast world-class standards. Here is a list of five best designed Indian airports that recently had a facelift. They are now considered among some of the best in the world in their respective passenger capacities.
