The Indian handset industry is going through an interesting phase as of now. There are plenty of interesting stuffs that we are seeing right now from the international players as well as the Indian brands. So we at Gizmodo India thought of bring you sixpredictions that we think will come true this year.
1) Close fight
We believe that in the game of numbers, it is going to be a close fight between Samsung, Micromax and Nokia for the number one spot. The gap between the player may decrease even further and there is also possibility that we might see the equation changing in the year 2014.
2) Not just Android tablets
Well the Indian market has been flooded with Android tablets and the reason is that these tablets are pocket friendly. However, we feel that it will change in 2014.
Apple has already offering lucrative bundling offers and EMI schemes for selling their iPhone and we expect the same kind of marketing aggression to be passed on to iPads as well.
Also at the CES 2014, we saw Xolo and Micromax showcase their dual-boot tablets, we expect that these tablets will be affordably priced and we see Windows also being accepted in the Indian market.
3) Make or break year for HTC
Things have not been very rosy for HTC in the recent past even globally and the same story holds true for the India market. We think it will be a make or break year for HTC in India and we are all hoping that HTC does create some magic with HTC One 2 or HTC M8.
4) Colors to rule the world
It was earlier only Nokia that offered handsets in various colors, now the trend is catching on. There is already Apple that is offering a very different gold color option. We hope the Indian smartphone may also get on to color brigade.
5) Rise of the Indian brands
We have already seen the Indian handset maker Micromax really makes a mark for itself. There are even others who are doing some good work but we feel that one of these brands will strengthen itself and fortify its brand value in the year 2014. In our opinion the race is mainly between Lava, Xolo and Spice. Karbonn had made some interesting noises earlier with Titanium range but it is not able to hold our attention span for long.
6) Motorola's re-entry in India
There have been plenty of rumours regarding Motorola planning to re-enter the Indian market. Well frankly we are also looking forward to having the new range of Motorola devices in India. Though there are still questions remaining as to how will they market and service their smartphones; but Motorola Moto G, we are really looking forward to having you.
