In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to digitalize India, Domestic handset maker Ringing Bells is all set to roll out the country's most affordable smartphone 'Freedom 251' priced at sub-Rs 500. This smartphone will be launched by Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar on February 17.
The Noida-based company said via a press invite, "The phone will be popularly priced at under Rs 500... this event and launch stands as a true testimony of success of the latest initiatives taken by the Government of India." However, Ringing Bells, which was established in 2015, did not disclose any other details about manufacturing, products and pricing.
In 2015, DataWind had announced that it is collaborating with Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications (RCOM) to bring the world's most affordable smartphone, priced at Rs 999. The phone is yet to hit the market.
Earlier this week, Ringing Bells has introduced its Smart 101 smartphone that comes with a price tag of Rs 2,999. Powered by 3 GHz Quadcore Processo, this handset features a 5-inch IPS 960x 480 pixels resolution Display. The Smart 101 runs on Android Lollipop 5.1 operating system. It carries an 8MP rear camera and a 3.2MP front snapper.
