BlackBerry makes a comeback with the KEYone The good ol’ BlackBerry is back and the company has brought its latest smartphone, the KEYone to India. The smartphone was first shown at MWC (Mobile World Congress) and the company has taken its time to bring the device to the country.
The probable reason was the company’s licensing partnership with Optiemus, the telecommunications enterprise which will be handling design, manufacturing and distribution of BlackBerry devices in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. 1/5 Price and availability Coming to the handset itself, BlackBerry has launched the ‘Limited Edition Black’ version of the device and it is priced at Rs 39,990. The handset will be available exclusively on Amazon India from 8th of August. Partner offers include finance options from American Express and bundled data offer Vodafone. 2/5 Design The KEYone comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard, something which BlackBerry has always capitalised on. It is probably the best keyboard as apart from typing the keyboard is touch-sensitive so you can swipe up and down to navigate through the UI. There is also a fingerprint sensor embedded in the space-bar key and almost every key can be customised to a shortcut. There is 4.5-inch touchscreen display with a 1620x1080 pixel resolution with a 432ppi pixel density and a 3:2 aspect ratio. 3/5 Hardware On the inside, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM along with 64GB of storage which is expandable to up to 2TB using a microSD card. There is a USB Type-C port which supports fast charging that can charge the handset from 0 to 50 percent in 36 minutes. Speaking of which the battery is rated at 3,505mAh which is claimed to last all day. 4/5 Software Moving to the software, this smartphone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and is loaded with high-security features. The company’s DTEK app ensures that your phone is fully protected by giving you a real-time status of the device by automatically monitoring the OS and apps. The BlackBerry Hub is also pre-loaded which is a unified messaging inbox for all your communication including messaging apps, social media and others. 5/5 Camera The camera on the KEYone is a 12-megapixel sensor with a dual-LED flash, large pixel size of 1.55um, phase detection auto-focus, f/2.0 aperture and support for 4K video recording. At the front there is an 8MP camera with a wide-angle 84-degree lens.
