How to watch the OnePlus 5 launch live

The OnePlus 5 will launch globally today, on June 20. The phone will be launched at an event in New York at 12PM EDT. OnePlus will stream the event live on its official YouTube Channel and you can tune in at 9:30PM in India to watch it live. While this is the global launch event, in India, OnePlus will unveil the phone on June 22 in an event in Mumbai.

The OnePlus 5 will succeed the OnePlus 3T which launched last year in December. The phone has been in the rumour mills for long and by now, almost every little detail about it is known. OnePlus itself carried television adverts highlighting the design and the dual cameras.

For its next flagship, OnePlus has decided to take on the likes of Apple, Samsung and Google in terms of imaging performance. While almost every other phone maker can assemble flagship-grade hardware and slap Android on top of it and pass it away as a premium phone, it is actually the experience that sets the giants apart. OnePlus aims to provide just that with the OnePlus 5.

For this, the Shenzhen-based company tied up with imaging experts DxO to develop a dual camera which is much like the iPhone 7 Plus. With a wideangle 16-megapixel camera and a telephoto 20-megapixel camera, the OnePlus 5 offers 2X optical zoom and a portrait mode which blurs the background of the object in focus.

On top of that the OnePlus 5 runs the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 835 paired with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. It is being offered in two storage variants - 64GB and 128GB. Outside is a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display.

The OnePlus 5 is powered by a 3,300mAh battery and will run on Android 7.1 Nougat with OxygenOS on top.
