After unveiling its flagship for 2017 earlier this week, OnePlus has launched its awaited smartphone in India on Thursday at an event in Mumbai. The OnePlus 5 is priced at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM variant while for the one with 8GB of RAM, you have to shell out Rs 37,999. The sale for the smartphone will start on June 27 but there is an Early Access Sale starting at 4:30 PM IST on June 22 at Amazon India and the OnePlus India Store.

The OnePlus 5 is thin at just 7.25mm and features a subtle curve chassis crafted from aluminium. The rear panel has got a matte-black finish which curves on the edges to meet the display. The crescent shaped antenna bands make for an even better-looking smartphone.

The smartphone flaunts a 5.5-inch full HD (1920x1080 pixels) Optic AMOLED, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protected, TrueTone display.

The OnePlus 5 comes in Midnight Black and Slate Grey colour variants.

The OnePlus 5 comes with a primary 16-megapixel, f/1.7 aperture sensor along with another 20-megapixel, f/2.6 aperture telephoto lens on the back. The twin camera setup offers 1.6x optical zoom along with support for electronic image stabilisation. This is backed by dual-LED flash.

On the front, there’s a 16-megapixel selfie camera featuring a f/2.0 aperture and supports EIS like the rear camera.

For enhancing the photography experience on the OnePlus 5, the company collaborated with DxO Labs. The twin camera setup on the rear allows users to shoot crisp pictures with depth-of-field and bokeh effect. OnePlus 5 also uses a custom SmartCapture multiframe technology to optimise the pictures taken by the camera which also uses machine leraning to identify the frame and enhance pictures automatically.

OnePlus 5 is rocking Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor backed by Adreno 540 GPU. The smartphone comes with two different RAM and internal storage variants; 6GB of RAM with 64GB onboard storage and 8GB of RAM with 128GB storage. There is no support for microSD card slot so the storage capacity cannot be expanded.

The OnePlus 5 runs on OxygenOS which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. OnePlus 5 features a Reading Mode which optimises the display to grayscale and filters out blue light. For gamers, there’s a Gaming DND Mode which blocks notifications, emails and disables soft keys. Then there’s the Secure box for added privacy.

OnePlus 5 has also partnered with Paytm in India to integrate the QuickPay on the smartphone. Users will be able to access Paytm QuickPay just by long pressing the home button.

On the connectivity front, the OnePlus 5 comes with the basic set of communication modules which includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C and 3.5mm headphone jack. The smartphone supports Dual SIM, 4G LTE and VoLTE.

The fingerprint sensor is embedded in the home button on the front which the company claims can unlock the phone is under 0.2 seconds.
