Motorola’s modular phone, the Moto Z2 Play has officially made its way to India and will be available from June 15 through offline retail stores and online exclusively at Flipkart. The Moto Z2 Play comes with four new Moto Mods along with support for the older mods as well. Lenovo-backed Moto has opened pre-bookings for the smartphone from today which will last until June 14 and has also introduced some pre-order offers for customers.
The Moto Z happened to be the slimmest smartphone last year and this year with its successor, the Z2 play, Moto aims to go even sleek. Hence, the Moto Z2 Play is just 5.99 mm thin and has aluminium unibody which makes it 15 percent thinner and 12 percent lighter than its predecessor. It has rounded edges that make for a perfect fit in the hand. Motorola has also revamped the home button design on the front which is now oval and doubles up as a fingerprint reader.
The Moto Z2 Play rocks an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor clocked in at 2.2 GHz which is paired with 4GB of RAM and an onboard storage of 64GB which can further be expanded up to 256 GB via a microSD card.
The smartphone runs on a near-stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat with Moto Experiences features such as the Moto Display, Moto Voice and Moto Actions.
The Moto Z2 Play sports a 12-megapixel f/1.7 aperture, phase detection and laser autofocus rear camera supported by a dual-tone LED flash.
The front of the device houses a 5-megapixel wide-angle, 85-degree field of view, f/2.0 aperture camera with dual-LED flash.
Moto Z2 Play comes with a 3,000 mAh battery which supports fast charging. Motorola claims a 30 hours talk time with the Turbocharge, charging the phone up to 50% in just 30 minutes.
There are four new Moto Mods launched with the Z2 Play which includes the Moto GamePad, JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker, Moto TurboPower Pack and the Moto Style Shell.
The Moto GamePad converts the smartphone into a handheld gaming console which the user can play on using the dual control sticks, D-pad and action buttons. The Moto GamePad itself has a built-in 1035mAh battery.
The JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker mod has been redesigned and now gives 10 hours of playtime along with being water repellent. It has dual 27mm speakers and an inbuilt 1000mAh battery.
The Moto TurboPower Pack mod adds an additional 3490mAh battery to the smartphone. The TurboPower Pack can get charged up to 50% in just 20 minutes.
Motorola has also introduced the Moto Style Shell that allows a smartphone to be wirelessly charged.
The Moto Z2 Play will retail at Rs 27,999 and is up for pre-bookings starting today. From June 15, the smartphone will be available on Flipkart as well as in retail stores.
As for the pre-booking offers, Moto is providing 50 percent off on select Moto Mods along with a finance offer where a user can pay Rs 2,000 and book the Moto Z2 Play, enabling them to pay the rest of the balance at a 0 percent interest in 10 months. Moto is also offering a Hello Armour Pack when a customer pre-orders the Z2 Play which includes an Aluminum case for the smartphone along with a screen protective film and selfie stick. Another offer will give Jio customers an additional 100 GB of 4G data.
