A photo shared by Mark Zuckerberg last year went viral. The image was of Zuckerberg in Facebook’s office.

However, the reason it went all crazy was because, in the background, there was a MacBook with its webcam covered with a black tape. There have been numerous cases in the past where the government has been known to secretly spy on users on the web, and one of the methods is by means of the webcam stuck to their laptops or PCs.

Privacy on the internet is of utmost important for many users (including me), and in order to prevent the sneaky spies to look into your webcam, this Indiegogo project might be the perfect solution.

Called Spyslide, this is a tiny slide window for your webcam. This unit is even tinier than a paperclip. Developed by Spy-Fy, a group of privacy advocates from Amsterdam, Netherlands, this tiny camera cover adds privacy to your device while looking minimal and elegant. The Spyslide is applicable on Laptops, desktops as well as tablets.

The cover is merely 0.6mm thin, which is perfect, as it helps the lid of the laptop close without leaving any unnecessary gaps. The unit is made entirely out of stainless steel which adds to build quality. The unit comes with an adhesive already installed so you don’t need to add any additional glue. It is so tiny, that once you’ve applied it on the camera module, you won’t even notice it.

The campaign on Indiegogo went live on February 22 to raise revenue for going under mass production. The campaign is scheduled to last 22 days with an initial goal is to raise approximately $5200. Surprisingly, at the time of writing the Spyslide had received almost $9000, which is definitely an overwhelming response.

If you’re interested to participate, you can go to Indiegogo to pledge support for the Spyslide here. The lowest donation is $7.50 (approximately Rs 500) donation, which will get you a Spyslide while spending $9.75 (approximately Rs 650) will get you one with free shipping. You can also buy three Spyslides for $16.

You can also choose to go for higher donations of $300(approximately Rs 20,000) will get you 50 Spyslides, and they will also be labelled with your personal logo or name. If you like to go uber cool you could donate around $1060 (approximately Rs 70,700) for a blingy Spyslide made of gold. The Spyslide is estimated to ship out in May.
