20 unique job titles to disrupt IT industry in future
Many critics have predicted unprecedented job losses in the future with the rise of automation. As per business consultant group Cognizant in a recent report, over the next 10 to 15 years, 12% of jobs in the US will be replaced by automation.
Sure, some jobs may become obsolete, but a number of completely new roles are also likely to arise. As per Cognizant, quoting the same report, 21 million new jobs will be created as a direct result of new technologies.
"We wanted to try to raise the flag, there is something big and profound going on," Ben Pring, vice-president and director of Cognizant's Center for Future of Work, was quoted as saying by media reports. "If you are paying attention, there's enough time to deal with this now," he added.
Work has always changed as technology advances, the report noted, with positions such as switchboard operators, lamplighters, and town criers eventually giving way to new jobs. Plus, many people are currently employed in jobs that are dull, dirty, or dangerous, and technology could potentially liberate them to do more fulfilling and lucrative work.
Cognizant identified 21 jobs that researchers expect to become prominent in the next 10 years. Here's the list:

The ideal candidate will lead the creation of a work environment that exploits digital trends, encourages shadow-IT innovation and positions IT as a "preferred partner". The goal is to create an automated self-service platform that lets users select the desired applications, as well as build virtual assistants to improve employee agility, productivity and engagement, while maintaining data control, security, governance and compliance.
Ethical Sourcing Officer
The role will cover three major categories of indirect ethical spend: energy, waste and community sponsorship. The ethical sourcing officer will investigate, track, negotiate and forge agreement around the automated provisioning of goods and services to ensure contractual alignment with the ethical wishes of the company's stakeholders, Cognizant says.
Artificial Intelligence Business Development Manager
As per Cognizant, the AI business development manager (BDM) will define, develop and deploy effective and targeted programmes to accelerate broad-based sales and business development activities. In this role, the professional will enable sales and solution architects with a specific customer-centric AI value proposition and will directly interface with product management and development teams regarding customer and partner requirements.
Master of Edge Computing
This job is for an imaginary Fortune 500 company that has realised its current IoT infrastructure is no longer going to cut it. Reporting to the CIO, the master of edge computing (MoEC) will define the IoT roadmap, carefully evaluate the technical requirements and assess the feasibility for establishing the edge processing unit and measure the return on investments. The winning candidate will be responsible for creating, maintaining and protecting the edge computing environment, says Cognizant.
