Facebook India CEO Umang Bedi Quits
Facebook India's CEO Umang Bedi who joined the company in June last year has officially resigned from his post and the company has picked Sandeep Bhushan as its interim managing director.
Bhushan prior to Facebook served Samsung as IT and Mobile business director. He also served as vice president of Digital in HT Media prior to his stint with Samsung. In Facebook he has managed new revenue opportunities from advertisers in the FMCG vertical.
Facebook India has confirmed the new executive movement stating- ''We confirm that Umang Bedi will be leaving his role at Facebook at the end of this year. He's built a really strong team and business during his time with us, and we wish him all the best," said a company spokesperson.
Facebook appointed Umang Bedi who previously served as the MD for Adobe South Asia region to nurture strategic relationships with its premium category clients as well as regional agencies in India.
Prior to bedi, Kirthiga Reddy, who has now returned to US served as CEO of Facebook India. Bedi at Adobe was responsible for inflating the company's business in India as well as creating India as a key market for the company.
The number of Facebook users in India has exceeded the 240 million mark, making the country with most number of Facebook accounts , as per a media report.
On July 13 this year , Facebook claimed a figure of 241 million active users in India, as compared to 240 million in the United States.
The number of active users in India has soared 27 percent in the last six months alone as compared to 12% in the United States in the same period.
While the numbers do look encouraging in India, the penetration of
Umang Bedi is an engineering graduate from University of Pune, an alumni of Harvard Business School and the recipient of the '40 Under Forty: India's Hottest Business Leaders Award 2014.' He had joined Facebook in July 2016.
