Reliance Jio has turned 1 year old this week. The new player in Indian telecom has changed the entire landscape of the industry. Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries announced free 4G LTE service last year. 


The very idea of offering free SIM card along with free service for six months changed the telecom industry. While there have been disagreements between Jio and other telecom operators in India, the end result has been good for the end consumers. 1. Number of subscribers


Reliance Jio has been able to achieve the maximum number of subscribers in a short span of time. The telecom has been added over 100 million users in first 170 days. Jio has 130 million active subscribers as of today. The growth rate suggests that the company adds 7 new subscribers per second. 


2. Data Usage


The introduction of high speed 4G LTE network at a reasonable price tag has boosted the data usage of Indian users. Jio has helped in making India the largest data consumption country in the world. Statistics suggest that the country consumes over 100 crore GB of data per month. Jio users are streaming videos for 165 crores per month. The stats for free voice calls have reached to 250 crore minutes per day. Jio also claims to add 70 million new users to Facebook and Google in last one year. 


3. Internet Speed


Jio has consistently secured its position to be the fastest wireless network in the country. The engineering team at Jio ensures to keep their internet speed much higher than Airtel, Vodafone, and other players. The stiff competition in the telecom industry has made other telecom operators to keep the internet speed at par since the entry of Jio. 


4. Best infrastructure


Reliance Jio has spent over Rs 2 lac crore in establishing the largest greenfield 4G LTE network. The company officials claim that Jio has built a much better network as compared to its rivals in a very short span of time. Reliance Chairman claims that Jio will have the largest 4G LTE network in next three years. The reach of the network will be much larger than what rival companies have been able to do in 22 years. 


5. Jio Phone


Reliance Jio has announced the one of its kind 4G-VoLTE feature phone. Jio Phone is projected as India's first smartphone for masses. The phone has received over 6 million pre-booking on the first day of its announcement. Jio Phone is offered at just Rs 1500 deposit, which is refundable after three years. Although the device is just a feature phone, users will be able to connect to the web, make free calls, use JioTV app by connecting the device to the television. Jio Phone will be available in the market by last week of September.
